Intersectional Barriers, Authentic Leadership and Institutional Transformation

Session I of the Fall 2018 GAINS workshop series will be led by Anita Patel. This workshop introduces students to a deeper understanding of intersectionality and how identity can impact leadership style and leadership opportunities. The workshop focuses on authentic leadership, and its relationship to institutional transformation.

About our Guest Speaker, Anita Patel:

As Leadership Programs Director at the Bush Foundation, Anita Patel works with her team to equip, inspire and connect leaders in order to strengthen the region. She has a significant record of accomplishments, including ten years of developing of a wide-range of leadership and inclusion programs as the vice president for racial justice and public policy at the YWCA of Minneapolis.  In 2011, she received the Hubert H. Humphrey Public Leadership Award, presented by the Humphrey School of Public Affairs at the University of Minnesota. Patel was named a Top Six Business Leader Under 30 by Minnesota Business Magazine and a Top Ten Outstanding Young Minnesotan by the Minnesota Jaycees. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Valparaiso University and a master’s from the Humphrey School of Public Affairs. She serves on the boards of the Charities Review Council and the Minnesota Humanities Center.
